Winter Storm Watch – North Central Alabama


Sunday afternoon Update – Winter storm watch has been extended in time until 6pm Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has went ahead and issued a Winter Storm Watch, which is in effect from 3 PM Monday evening through 6pm Tuesday.

The watch includes Marion, Lamar, Winston, Fayette, Walker, Blount, Etowah, Cherokee, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, St. Clair, Calhoun and Cleburne counties.

At this time, the best potential for significant snow, sleet and freezing rain accumulations will be for locations generally north of a line from Aliceville to Tuscaloosa to Birmingham and to Heflin.

There is a potential of 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet combined across the watch area…as well as up to two tenths of an inch of freezing rain accumulation.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow… sleet… or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
