We have mostly rain with wintry mix starting out across the northern areas early this morning. Several reports of freezing rain and sleet are coming in across the northern areas at 600 am.
Significant snow is still expected to develop starting this morning and continuing into the afternoon and evening.
Updates on the warnings:
Huntsville Weather Office continues the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am Thursday.
The mixed wintry precipitation will transition over to all snow after sunrise this morning, with moderate to heavy snowfall expected through 3 am Thursday.
Accumulations of 2 to 5 inches west of I-65 with 5 to 8 inches possible east of I-65. Locally higher amounts of snow are possible along the Cumberland Plateau.
Birmingham Weather Office continues the Winter Storm Warning in effect until 6 am Thursday.
Mixed precipitation will begin across far eastern Alabama this morning. The precipitation will change to all sleet or snow across northeast Alabama by mid afternoon with a change-over in the remainder of the warning area by sunset.
The best potential for snow accumulations will be along and north of a line from Double Springs… to Birmingham… to Sylacauga… to Roanoke.
Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible across the warning area… with 2 to 4 inches across north of a line from Hayden… to Anniston… to Newell.
