An upper ridge of high pressure over Texas expands eastward into Alabama today.
This will suppress chances of afternoon thunderstorms over Alabama, with only a very slight chance of an isolated storm.
Temperatures will also rise under the ridge with highs climbing to near 90 for most locations.
A weak cold front will push into north Alabama on Thursday. The degree of instability on Thursday will depend greatly on the surface heating or lack of cloud cover.
The primary threat area will be close to where the surface boundary sets up Thursday afternoon. At this time, that zone looks to be around the I-29 corridor.
The greatest threat from any strong to severe storms will be damaging straight-line winds. We will be watching this system closely.
