Needless to say, Friday was an active weather day across the state of Alabama.
Overall, the weather this weekend looks unsettled with periods of mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms…and we expect that to continue into next week. Today looks like it may be the driest day of the weekend, but that won’t be the case for everyone.
For today, the models are fairly consistent in building in a weak high pressure ridge from the mid levels as the day continues. This will help to limit the chances of afternoon thunderstorms to around 30%.
We will watch upstream development to our northwest as well. The storm prediction center has included the northwest corner of the state in the slight risk category of severe weather for today.
Daytime highs are expected to reach around 90 in most locations with more sun and less clouds, with low 90’s in the southern sections.
If you are planning to be outdoors this weekend, checking on your local weather often will be a good ideal. Even if the thunderstorms don’t become severe, they will produce deadly cloud to ground lightning strikes.
