Tuesday: Wet and Stormy

Heavy rainfall and the threat of flash flooding will increase over north and central Alabama today.

Deep moist southerly flow indicated at all levels enabling echo training of rainfall bands to develop and repeat over the same areas.

The greatest threat of sustained heavy rainfall today will be along and west of I-65, then shifting slowly eastward tonight.

Flash Flood Watches have been issued for parts of north and west Alabama through tonight. Additional rainfall totals of 2-4 inches are possible.

There remains a chance that we may see some additional severe thunderstorms developing. Instability will be hampered by extensive clouds, but with shear in place…bowing storm segments are expected to develop.

The greatest risk from the storms would be damaging straight-line winds, but there is also a threat of isolated tornadoes and flash flooding.
