High pressure begins to build across the state today and this will reduce the scattered thunderstorms in the southern and western parts of the state.
Temperatures will also be on the rise as well. Heat index values will become more of a weather factor starting today and continuing through mid-week.
Western and southern portions of Alabama should prepare for Heat Index values around 100 degrees this afternoon with lesser coverage of showers and storms there. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower and middle 90s there.
Showers and storms will occur mainly along and east of Interstate 65 today, with only isolated activity expected west of the interstate. Gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall will be possible with any thunderstorm activity through this evening.
