At the surface this morning is an area of high pressure over Arkansas, that will be shifting eastward today. This will aid in the development of a west/southwest flow over Alabama.
Aside from the dry day expected today, the real story will be the heat index values this afternoon. Afternoon high temperatures are expected in the mid 90’s.
Heat index values are expected to reach into the low 100’s across much of the state this afternoon.
Rain chances today will be less than 10%. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon mainly over the southern portions of Alabama.
We expect to see increasing moisture pump northward ahead of a stationary front sagging southward toward Alabama by Thursday. This will bring about a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms by Thursday afternoon.
Increasing chances of showers and storms are expected all the way through the weekend. The increase in clouds and showers will hold down the temperatures a few degrees…but hot, humid, and scattered storms are expected each day.
