This morning at the surface, a cold front can be seen across West Virgina southward into the Carolinas. This front will be the main player in today’s forecast.
The upper ridge of high pressure will retreat to the west today as the cold front across the Carolinas moves from east to west.
With the above normal moisture already in place across the area, good chances of showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of the backdoor front.
The front will spread westward across the state, and east Alabama is expected to see the best chances of rain this afternoon. Some of these storms will be strong with gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the heat remains a factor…as the heat advisory continues for south and west central locations of Alabama. Heat index will reach over 105 degrees in these areas by this afternoon.
The cold front will continue its westward progression overnight and into Monday. The greatest chance for rain on Monday will be across areas west of Interstate 65 as the cold front moves across those areas.
