Arctic Air to Invade the South

The heavy rain and storms are finally moving east of Alabama this morning. We expect clouds with light rain and drizzle to remain through much of the day.

A cold front is moving into Alabama and will bring colder air back into the state. Temperatures are expected to drop through the day.

We expect colder weather to start the week off with below freezing temperatures at night and cool daytime highs.

Models continue to show an extended period of dry weather tonight through at least the end of the upcoming work week.

The big story by mid week will undoubtedly be the coldest air of the winter season for our area is expected to move in starting Wednesday.

Good model agreement leads to a high confidence in a significant hard freeze likely by Thursday morning as arctic air moves into the south.

Overnight lows Wednesday night will range from single digits across the north to the teens in the south.

Brisk winds associated with the airmass will produce wind chills near zero for many northern locations by late Wednesday.

We will continue to monitor this weather situation and update future forecasts.
