Winter is not finished with Alabama yet, as we look for back to back Arctic blasts over the next week.
Several dry cold fronts are expected to push through the region followed by some fairly strong Arctic highs.
As a result, we expect the next 7 days to be rain free…with some extremely cold temperatures all the way down to the Gulf Coast.
Temperatures will trend towards the mild side by Wednesday with daytime highs in the 60’s.
By Thursday the first blast of cold air associated with a strong front will push into the southeast.
Windy and cold conditions will push into Alabama on Thursday. Temperatures will drop into the teens by Friday morning across the north and 20’s in the south.
A second and stronger front will move into the region Saturday night and even colder air is expected to move into Alabama. It’s possible that some northern areas may see single digits.
Daytime highs on Sunday may not reach freezing across northern sections, as wind chills drop to near zero.
Both the GFS and ECMWF models are painting a potential winter storm for much of the southeast, including parts of Alabama by Tuesday of next week. It’s really too far out to trust these model runs…however we will be keeping a close watch.
