A shortwave continues to move through western Mississippi very slowly today. This wave was partially responsible for the widespread showers and thunderstorms that occurred over Alabama on Wednesday.
The wave looks to be the main focus for thunderstorm development again today, as plenty of Gulf moisture continues to feed into the region from the south.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread by the afternoon, then turning into more of a rain event later in the day.
We cannot rule out a strong or isolated severe thunderstorm, but the main threat is more locally heavy rain. Small hail along with gusty winds are possible.
